The year 2020 will go down in the history books as a whirlwind of events. While it can be challenging to process everything that’s happened, the one for-sure positive that has come out of this year professionally is reflection.

Personally, I have enjoyed spending extra time with my family. But in terms of business, I have thought a lot about what my skill set is and how it fits into a business landscape.

I started my career in journalism and gained great researching skills and learned how to cater content to a particular audience. Those are great skills I take everywhere, but there are four specific traits that marketing has given me that would be beneficial to anyone in business:

For a lot of people, one of the hardest things is taking critique. It can be hard to hear what you aren’t doing well from people you work with.… Read more

As the world becomes increasingly digital-first, being able to accurately measure, track, and analyze data has become critical to nonprofits’ long-term success.

The Top Four Trends Impacting Nonprofits report found that nonprofit organizations get their data from an average of six different sources–and that number is expected to increase to eight by 2021. With so much data, it can be difficult to measure key performance indicators–like return on investment, campaign performance, and engagement–which in turn makes it hard to tell if an organization’s message is resonating with its target audience.

This is what makes Datorama such a critical tool for nonprofits looking to gain a better understanding of what’s working and what’s not, and take decisive steps to optimize their campaign performance, and increase internal transparency.

Royal Dutch Shell (LSE:RDSB) shares have been badly affected by the new spike in coronavirus cases. But the oil giant is preparing to cut costs. So, is it a great opportunity or not?

Shell cuts costs

Shell is planning to cut production costs of oil and gas by up to 40{429fc2506e610357e12b2a5665db82631200a2e00b3a1d8839077d76f18e2e8b}. Sounds like great news, indeed. But there’s a catch, however. Oil companies face rising pressure to become environmentally friendly. That made them set themsleves targets to get carbon neutral. Shell aims to become carbon neutral by 2050, for example. So, as part of this initiative, the corporation simply moved from oil and gas where profit margins are much higher to alternative energy sources. As you can see, it doesn’t mean the company’s total costs will go down. Instead, Shell wants to reduce only the oil and gas costs. At the same time the company is prepared to take … Read more

It’s going to take a long time to get out of this economic mess, but we’re making progress: Since the end of April, the economy has added more than 10 million jobs and the unemployment rate has fallen from its peak of 14.7{429fc2506e610357e12b2a5665db82631200a2e00b3a1d8839077d76f18e2e8b} to 8.4{429fc2506e610357e12b2a5665db82631200a2e00b3a1d8839077d76f18e2e8b}.

But that national recovery is unequal. Employment in some states is back to pre-pandemic levels, while others are at mass joblessness levels surpassing the 2007-09 Great Recession.

When the pandemic hit, the jobless rate in Nebraska soared from 4{429fc2506e610357e12b2a5665db82631200a2e00b3a1d8839077d76f18e2e8b} in March to 8.7{429fc2506e610357e12b2a5665db82631200a2e00b3a1d8839077d76f18e2e8b} in April. But the state’s nearly fully reopened economy has helped push the jobless rate back to 4{429fc2506e610357e12b2a5665db82631200a2e00b3a1d8839077d76f18e2e8b} as of August.

The picture in New York, the epicenter of the pandemic in the spring, is far less rosy. … Read more
